In this article, Debbie Reese expresses and utilizes her personal experiences as a Nambe Pueblo woman to make strong arguments for accurate representation of her culture in literature. With her culture as such a important part of her identity in mind, she addresses many issues found in children's literature that perpetuate stereotypes of Native American people and culture. She sees that the two major categories of Native American people in children's literature are either as savages or soft spoken heroes that are one with the earth. With this article, she hopes to squash the stereotypes or Native Americans in literature and open people's eyes to more historically and culturally accurate material regarding Native American culture.
